Transcription: Each year the city stages a remarkable pageant, the Lord Mayor's show. A celebration of one of the earliest examples of democracy. In the year 1215 King John granted a charter allowing the citizens of London to elect their own mayor. The mayor would then parade before the king and swear allegiance. There have been over 600 mayors since 1215, making the city the oldest municipality in the world.
